MINT’s studio has more light than you can imagine.

We have a truly unique experiential light space at our studio in Moorabbin. It is not a showroom — remember, we do not sell lights — so we do not have light fittings on display to show you. It is a creative workshop. You will often find us in the middle of a bunch of projects — building, deconstructing, creating and playing with light and the technology behind it.

If you want to book in and visit the studio, you will find yourself sharing our excitement for light, exploring how light behaves, and seeing some of the phenomenal things that can be achieved with it. Our studio is the only space where you can physically explore the different effects light can create at any time of day.

Adele Locke. FOUNDER. Director. Designer.

Light is a creative medium I love. I love the science, the ability to inspire others, the playfulness and the constant learning as technology changes and new design solutions arise. Running MINT Lighting Design for the last 10 years has allowed me to inspire thousands of people with light and bring transformative light to over 700 homes and numerous commercial spaces.

I founded MINT Lighting Design in 2012, an independent residential lighting design practice specialising in lighting homes. MINT makes designed light attainable to everyone, and has changed people’s expectations of light and the value they place on it in every environment.

My commercial design projects include the multi-site architainment lighting for Melbourne Airport’s Forecourt in 2014, the renovation of the historically important Great Hall at the University of Newcastle and large and small scale retail and hospitality venues, including the E&S Trading Showroom in Preston and the Sebel Quay West Foyer in Sydney. Regardless of the scale of a project, the value of light as a transformative tool in interior design and architecture can not be overstated.

In 2014 I was elected to the role of President of IESANZ. I was the first woman to receive the honour of that role, I held the position for 3 years. Previously I was the youngest elected Chapter President of the Victorian Chapter. My time with IESANZ provided many unique and memorable experiences. I presented keynotes and educational seminars around Australia, New Zealand and Japan. Speaking at their 100th anniversary of IES Japan is a standout as The Emperor of Japan attended the final event of the conference, a truly unique moment.

As an expert in my field, I share my knowledge and passion for light and lighting design through public speaking at events, in-house training for other businesses and through our MINT Light School, established in 2019. I also mentor aspiring lighting professionals and am a regular guest lecturer for various colleges such as Collarts, Gordon TAFE, Billy Blue and RMIT.

I consider the opportunity to share the joy of light and the value and opportunity lighting design presents in Interior Design and Architecture as one of the greatest gifts of my career.
